Lupe Cardoza

lupe-cardoza1934 - 2012

RESIDENT OF RICHMOND

Lupe Cardoza passed away peacefully at her Richmond home with her family at her side. Her short fight with cancer ended on January 18, 2012.

Lupe was born in Mexico in 1934 to Manuel and Lorenza Cardoza but spent most of her life living in Richmond, California. After high school, she started a long and prestigious career with Pac Bell as a supervisor of marketing. She enjoyed working in San Francisco and often played tour guide, taking friends and family all over the city. San Francisco was a city she loved. Even after retirement, she returned there often to enjoy the city sights. Lupe spent her retirement years incredibly active in community service, AARP and volunteering innumerable hours. She and her friends made thousands of blankets, stockings and bibs for families, stockings for retirees, gave books to the juvenile detention centers, and provided clothing and donations to children's organizations, nursing homes and senior centers. She took pleasure in making crafts at home with her cousins which were donated as well.

Traveling the world was one of Lupe's passions and she had the scrapbook photos and mementos to prove it. She often spoke of her journeys and the countless friends she made along the way. She will also be remembered for her kind heart and generosity and loved to send a get well card or birthday card to her many friends and family. She was also a lifelong 49er fan, telling old stories of Kezar Stadium in San Francisco and dressing in red and gold on game days.

Lupe leaves behind her nephew Manuel Cardoza, many cousins, godchildren, family and friends along with four grandsons whom she adored and spent a great deal of time with. She was preceded in death by her parents Manuel and Lorenza and her brother Greg. She will be missed tremendously by those who knew and loved her.

Services will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Holy Angel Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made in her name to American Cancer Society or to any charity or cause of your choice. Send a card to someone you care about or donate your time in honor of her.

I worked with Lupe at GMA Research from 1983 to 1987. Having lived in the US alone, Lupe became a second mother to me. A gracious, loving, caring lady. I woke up at 3am last night thinking of her and intended to search for her and to be in contact with her again. And when I Googled her name, this is what I found. My heart is bleeding and I will never forget her. I lost a dear friend, a confidante, a second mother, a boss.

I LOVE YOU, LUPE, and I will miss you dearly. I am so sorry I took so long to reach out again. I am so sorry :(

PS. Thank you again for letting me drive your blue car and for miniature bible you gave me. I will see you again soon.

Lupe's Family,
I am sorry to hear of your loss, what a joy and pleasure to have known Lupe. We hit it off right away (fighting to keep our neighborhood safe). That was almost eight years ago. My grandson who is almost sixteen loved her. Our prayers and heartfelt sympathy goes out to to each of you during this very difficult time. Amor y pesame.

I didn't know you as well as my mom and aunties did, but each time I had the opportunity to be in your presence, it was lovely. You always gave me the impression of elegance and grace, kindness and style. You never seemed to judge others, but accept everything that happened as a part of life, good or bad. I admired that about you.
Thank you for all the kindness you bestowed on my mom. She looked forward to your cards and notes. I know you will be free from pain now and that your new life is in a much better place than here. You'll be missed by all who knew you. Much Love...

Though we didn't get to spend the amount of time together that I would have liked, the time we spent was treasured. You always had a kind word, a thoughtful card, a hearty laugh and a great smile. We laughed over silly things, we talked about life and family and we cried over the loss of those we loved. You were a kind and gentle person, who never wavered in your friendship. I couldn't have asked for a better sister-in-law, and I am glad that we remained family always. Rest in peace Lupé. You are in better hands now and free from pain. You WILL be missed.

Aunt Lupe, you will always hold a special place in my heart as well as in my kids' lives. We will always remember your laugh and the joy you brought to our house. All the cards you sent for holidays or even a just because card...because you loved us and that's the kind of woman you were.
Will never forget the love you had for the 49ers...I can still hear you say..."Go Niners'!!! with your thumbs up...You will be missed and thought of every day...Thank you for being a part of our family and lives.

Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal~

I miss her everyday, but know that her memory and love will live forever in our hearts.

To Lupe's Loved ones

We send our thoughts and prayers to each of you at this time. We lived next door to her for seven years and enjoyed every minute we spent with her. She was so kind, caring and full of life. Lupe made the world a better place and heaven now has a beautiful new angel.

God Bless all of you and may your sadness be replaced in time by all the wonderful memories of Lupe.
