Jean Marie Palomares (Oberhausen) passed away from renal failure after a long bout with diabetes, heart disease, dementia and other ailments at Ygnacio Valley Care Center in Walnut Creek, CA. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Charles (Deacon Chuck) Palomares and daughter, Rebecca Palomares and son, Dr. David Palomares (Kathleen) and grandchildren, Jeanmarie and William Meyers(Laura), Jonathan, Nicholas, Alexander, Christopher Palomares and great-grandchildren Taylor Frazier, Anthony and Dylan Meyers. She was predeceased by granddaughter Christina Palomares. She is survived by sisters, Mary Carmel DuMoulin (David) and Mary Jo Mehl (Randall). She was predeceased by three sisters and two brothers.
Jean was born in Highland Park (Detroit) Michigan. After several months, the family returned to Louisville, Kentucky. In the early 1950s, the family relocated to Southern California. Jean met her husband to be, Chuck, while he was being honorably discharged from the USN after service in the Korean war. They met at a Catholic Young Adults club event and were married in 1954.
Jean worked for a small dress manufacturer where she was able to use her considerable skill in dress design and sewing. Besides sewing for her family she designed gowns and evening wear. She designed and created costumes for 'the La Puente Players' little theater group in southern California where she also acted. Chuck and Jean relocated to Walnut Creek in 1966, and Jean became more active in the church. She became involved in liturgical environment coordination and Eucharistic Minister scheduling. She was also known for her delicious Lenten soup suppers. Jean was the proprietor of 'Jean Marie’s Stamp Shoppe' in Concord California for over thirty-four years, where she was a long time member and president of the Diablo Valley Stamp Club.
She and Chuck took in 22 newborn and 3 toddler foster children. She enjoyed cruises and travels to Europe and the Holy Land. She somehow found the time to attend almost 100% of the formation sessions for the Permanent Deaconate that her husband was undergoing.
Funeral services will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Church at 860 Oak Grove Rd. Concord, Thurs. Jan. 26. Viewing 6:30 PM, Vigil 7 PM and Funeral Mass at 7:30 PM. Reception following. Interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Lafayette on Fri. Jan 27 at 11 AM.
