John Lawrence "Larry" Valley

OCTOBER 4, 1945 - JANUARY 5, 2012

RESIDENT OF OAKLAND, CA

John Lawrence Valley entered the heavenly gates on Thursday, due to complicated illness. He was a free spirit who touched many hearts with his brilliant wit, values, humor, dapper style, and handsome persona. Larry was born in Seattle, Washington, graduated from Garfield High School and attended Morehouse College in 1963-64. He had a short career at Boeing as a draftsman and once he relocated to the Bay Area he established a professional 40 year career at Delta Dental. During his career at Delta Dental he worked in multiple management positions within the corporation entities. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in IT Management from the University of Phoenix and retired in 2002. Larry was a true goal achiever, motivator, confidant, and always focused on positive elements in life. He LOVED playing GOLF, reading, giving sound advice, traveling, his dogs, and retirement.

Larry is survived by his beautiful loving wife, Lynnette, children Anika and Yanni, step daughters Angela (Tony) and Geneva, grandchildren Jair, Jade, Amariyah, Kayla, Nia, Nadia, Antonio Jr. and twins Jonathan and Daniel and his sweet little poodle Tachi. He is also survived by his sister Jeri Valley-Bryant, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. No words can truly express how much his smile and vibrant spirit will be truly missed by all who knew him.

Memorial service in the honor of Larry will be held on Monday, January 16, 2012 at 11:00am at Wedgewood/Metropolitan Golf Links, 10051 Doolittle Drive in Oakland, California. Metro Golf Links 510-569-5555.

They say that "Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away." That is the way Larry lived his life; always looking for the next positive experience, never letting whatever was going on in his life defeat him...always waiting for the next breathtaking moment, or doing his best to take someone else's breath away. His fine SPIRIT will be missed!
