Walter Franca Sr. passed away on Saturday. He was born in North Kohala, Hawaii. He worked at the age of 13 to help support his mother and siblings since hes father had died when Walter was 7 years old. He worked as a crane operator for the sugar plantation as well as learning everything he could from building homes to repairing automobiles. He married in 1946, started a family of his own and by 1953 moved to California with his family hoping for more opportunities and for a better education for his children. Walter worked and retired from National Can Company after working many years as an inspector and maintenance mechanic. His love for history and adventure was fulfilled by reading and traveling. Amongst all his travel in the world his most memorable and favorite was his vacation to Brazil and Argentina.

Walter is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Elsie Franca; devoted children Walter Jr. of Cottage Grove, OR, Lynn Pena of San Leandro, and Elverta Yoshida of Kealakekua, Hawaii and grandchildren, Sean Pena of San Leandro and others, great-grandchildren, Jessica Creger of Sherwood, OR and others, He is also survived by brothers, Herman Franca of Chattanoga, TN and Anthony Moniz of Newark, CA and many nieces and nephews. His generous spirit as well as his willingness to always be there to help his family and friends will be greatly missed.
