Sylvia Helena de Brussel Asse

June 8, 1947- September 27, 2013

Sylvia Helena de Brussel Asse was called home by God on the evening of Friday, September 27, 2013. She was preceded in death by her father Charles de Brussel Asse. She is survived by her mother Mary de Brussel Asse, and her three children.

She was born in Jakarta, Indonesia. From 1947 until 1957, Sylvia and her parents lived in New Guinea. From 1957 until Sept. 1962, they lived in the Netherlands. In September 1962, under the presidency of John F. Kennedy, the small family immigrated to the United States, and settled in Oakland, CA. They eventually made their home in San Lorenzo, where Sylvia resided for 42 years.

Sylvia retired from working for the county of Alameda for 36 years. After her retirement, Sylvia developed a love for line dancing. She was thankful for her wonderful and patient dance instructor Bertha, and her husband Mr. H.

Sylvia enjoyed her many friends at the line dance group, and wishes them all the best. Sylvia also volunteered at the Davis Street Family Resource Center. Sylvia had numerous friends in the local community, and will be missed by many.

A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at 10:00AM at St. Joachim Catholic Church, 21250 Hesperian Blvd., Hayward, CA. A celebration of life will follow at Cityline Event Center, 3601 San Pablo Ave., Emeryville, CA from 2pm-6pm.
