Julio Fuentes Tapia, age 86, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2011. He is preceded in death by his wife Esperanza, daughter Ludy Tapia and son Larry Tapia. He is survived by daughters Alice Tapia, Olga Tapia, Alma Forwood and son Armando Tapia. He leaves behind several grandchildren as well as great-grandchildren.
Julio was a long time employee of the Alameda Naval Air Station and retired from there in 1990. Julio served in the Pacific theater with the United States Marine Corps from 1943 to 1945. As a Corporal in the Marines he took part in numerous battles and was part of the American occupying force in Nagasaki, Japan.
Julio also served in the United States Army during the Korean War, 1949 to 1951, where he again proved his valor and rose to the rank of Sergeant.
Julio enjoyed working around the house on his carpentry projects and he liked to do a little fishing now and then and loved a cold beer.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation & viewing , Tuesday, September 20th, 5:00 - 8:30 PM, Rosary at 7:00 PM at Holy Angels Sorensen Chapel, 1140 B St, Hayward. Funeral Service, Wednesday, September 21st, 11:00 AM also at Sorensen Chapel.
