Roy passed away Aug. 27, 2011 at the age of 87. Roy was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada to Arthur and Laura Watkins; he was the youngest of 19 brothers and sisters. In Winnipeg, at a very young age, Roy found his lifelong love, friend and companion, Audrey. They married in 1945, while Toby served in the Canadian Air Force.
Roy and Audrey had four sons. In 1955 they packed up the family and moved to the United States, settling in Hayward, California. They became US Citizens, and shortly after they were blessed with a daughter, and Hayward became their home for the past 57 years.
Roy was a very proud, patriotic and stoic husband, father, brother and friend. He had many passions, his family, his neighborhood, his immaculate yard, his pristine cars and the love for his many dog "Buddies" throughout the years.
Roy was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Audrey Watkins; son Gordon Watkins; granddaughter, Candice Watkins; and 17 of his loving brothers and sisters. He is survived by his three sons, Ray Watkins(Rhonda); James Watkins (Susie); Kent Watkins; daughter Denice Kransky(Lon); sister, Vera Duguay, 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Roy will continue to shine in all the hearts he has touched throughout his life.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Roy's life at a Memorial Service on Friday, Sept. 9th at 3:00 p.m. at Holy Angels Sorensen Chapel, 1140 B Street, Hayward, CA.
