Josephine Cardera passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family where she was an outstanding example of strength, courage and unconditional love. Josephine was born and raised in Orocovis, Puerto Rico. At the age of 16, she and her husband Carmelo moved to Hayward, CA where they raised their family and enjoyed the rest of their lives.
She is preceded in death by her husband Carmelo Cardera and son Carmelo "Juni" Cardera. She is survived by her daughters Gloria Ortega and Rosalie Cardera, sons Frank (EmaJune), Louie (Nancy), Richard (Esther) and Stanley Cardera as well as 23 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren and the countless extended family and friends.
Visitation services will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011 from 5:00 - 8:30 p.m. with a vigil at 7:00 at Holy Angels Sorensen Chapel, 1140 B street Hayward, CA. A Funeral Mass will be on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011 at All Saints Church, 22824 2nd St. Hayward, CA 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
