SEPTEMBER 23, 1923 - AUGUST 7, 2011
Resident of Castro Valley for 62 years
Our beloved mother passed away peacefully at her home August 7, 2011 with her family by her side. She fought a courageous battle to defeat a rare disease that had attacked her kidneys but in the end her body became too tired to fight anymore, and so she shut her eyes and the angels took her from us.
Dearly beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and Friend. Born in Napa, California to Felipa and Jose Hernandez and raised in Hayward. She was a seasonal worker for many years at the cannery in Hayward, was a member of the Spanish Club of Hayward, Sociedad de Isabella Catholica of Sunnyvale and a Parishioner for many years at Transfiguration Catholic Church in Castro Valley.
Mom loved to work in her yard and on many occasions perfect strangers would see her working there and just stop to tell her how nice her yard looked. She would always say, it was a lot of work but that she enjoyed it. She could take a clipping from any plant, any time of the year, and that clipping would flourish into a beautiful plant under her constant care. We all have plants in our yards that she started from those clippings. One of her many hobbies included covering clothes hangers with yarn. She made sure all her family members had all their clothes hangers in their closet covered. Mom also enjoyed her trips to Reno and Jackson Rancheria where she was always very lucky.
Rosie was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years Tony, who passed away in 2009, her parents Felipa and Jose Hernandez, and her siblings Raymond Hernandez, Fermina Madrid, Frank Hernandez, Julie Hernandez, and Chris Hernandez.
She is survived by her brother Florence Hernandez of Hayward and her children Phyllis Kiester (Greg) of Tracy, Betty Gasper (Mike) of Castro Valley, Toni Noleroth (Dale) of Dublin; her grandchildren Dale Noleroth, Denise Bunger, Michael Kiester, Kevin & Brian Gasper, as well as 4 great-grandchildren; Nicole and Justin Kiester, Avery and Logan Noleroth, and many nieces and nephews.
Her family was her pride and joy, and she will be truly missed but forever in our hearts!
