DECEMBER 10, 1931 - SEPTEMBER 12, 2011
RESIDENT OF BRENTWOOD
Monica Lorenzetti-DiMaggio, surrounded by her loving husband and children, died peacefully on Monday, September 12, 2011 following a long illness. Born in Michigan on December 10, 1931, she moved to California with her parents, Leo and Gertrude Sacchetti and six siblings. Following graduation from Liberty High School, Monica married Robert Lorenzetti. They shared thirty-seven wonderful years’ together, raising four children in their home in Oakley before Bob’s death in 1987. Monica married Francesco DiMaggio in 1990 and together they happily spent her final years in their home in Brentwood. Monica enjoyed traveling, reading, gardening, and going to the theater. One of her favorite pastimes was cooking meals for her family. She was famous for her holiday dinners and had a tough time giving away her recipe for stuffing. Another favorite pastime was making sure she got the best seat on the next bus to any casino. Even during her final days, Monica insisted she was going to take the next bus to Reno. Monica also enjoyed her volunteer work at Sutter Delta and John Muir Hospitals as well as attending meetings for the Sons of Italy. She was known for her witty humor and bubbly personality. During her stay at Diamond Ridge Medical Facility, she knew every nurse’s first name and their life story.
Monica is survived by her loving husband, Francesco DiMaggio; her children, Larry Lorenzetti, Dina Stallings (Tom), Barbara Daniels (Sterling), and Terri Inzerillo (Frank). Her pride and joy were obvious in the presence of her ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation and Mass for Monica Lorenzetti-DiMaggio will be at 9:00 am, Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at Most Holy Rosary Church located at 1313 A Street in Antioch. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery on E. 18th Street in Antioch.
The family wishes to thank Monica’s caregiver, Lee McLain, the staff at Diamond Ridge Medical Facility, Sutter VNA Hospice, Dr. Yogesh Trehan and staff, and the Dominican priests at Holy Rosary Church for their love and support. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sutter VNA Hospice.
